Students at Colonial Elementary School, located at 1824
Pennsylvania Ave., celebrated Book Week during the late 1950s.

only until the fall of 1957, when it became a "Negro"
school as more African-American families moved into the area just
south and west of Fair Park. Pictured with the students and teachers is the school principal Clarence Leroy Dennard.
