Recent acquisition
Dard Hunter, II. The Life Work of Dard Hunter. Chillicothe, Ohio: Mountain House Press, 1981 and 1983. O’Hara Fund purchase.
These two folio volumes chronicle the career of Dard Hunter, a paper historian, graphic designer, papermaker, and printer and showcase samples of his design work and handmade papers. Compiled by his son, Dard Hunter II, the work is an homage to his father. The elder Hunter’s research and writing on papermaking form the cornerstone of our knowledge about the history of handmade paper throughout the world. This acquisition complements several Dard Hunter volumes owned by Fine Books, including A Papermaking Pilgrimage to Japan, Korea, and China (1936), Papermaking by Hand in India (1939), Papermaking in Indo-China (1947), Papermaking by Hand in America (1950), and My Life with Paper: An Autobiography (1958).
