Biographical NoteThe Slaughter Family consists of Avery Atkins Slaughter, his wife Winifred Slaughter, and their two sons, Avery Slaughter Jr. and Harry James Slaughter. A.A. Slaughter Jr. was born in Tennessee in September 1884. A.A. Slaughter later moved to Missouri and graduated High School in 1909. He moved to Houston around 1910 and began working for R.L. Polk &Co. Directory Division. He transferred to Dallas in 1916 and began working for Worley Publishing as a salesman. He later left Worley Publishing in 1945 to work as an independent real estate agent. Sometime in1921-1923 Avery Slaughter married Winifred Slaughter. She was born in 1889 in Missouri. They had two sons, Avery Slaughter Jr., born in 1925, died on September 9th, 1945 and Harry James Slaughter, born in 1926, died on June 15, 1997. Both sons served in the United States Navy. A.A. Slaughter Sr. passed away on May 10, 1967 and Winifred Slaughter died on June 24, 1968.
