Using the Image Gallery
The Image Gallery contains over 1,800 images from the Marion Butts collection, organized by keywords. Photo thumbnails can be browsed or viewed as albums organized by keywords.
Clicking on a thumbnail will bring up the individual image, which includes the accession number (which is used for identification purposes) as well as short description and the date the photo was taken (when known).
Keyword Albums
Clicking on the list of keywords on the left side of the page will pull up a collection of images with the same keyword. In addition, groups of images can be viewed as a slide show.
Searching
The gallery can be searched by keyword or text in the description as well. Initially, 20 "core" images will be shown; to see more, click the button labeled "Show All." When searching, don't put quote around your search topic. Search use partial search strings: entering "man" will also return "woman, as well "German" and "manager. The search string is highlighted in yellow on the search results. If you didn't find what you were searching for, try changing your search term.
