This free day-long workshop, presented by specialists from the U.S. Patent and Trademark
Office (USPTO), will focus on the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act (AIA). The AIA, which
was signed into law on September 16, 2011, includes many significant changes to the
patent law, including new ways for third parties to challenge an issued patent before
the USPTO and a migration from a "first to invent" to a "first inventor
to file" system.
The USPTO will be presenting this workshop at 7 locations (including Dallas, Texas)
across the United States over the next two months. They will be discussing proposed
rules implementing various provisions of the AIA. Proposed rules to be covered include:
"the OED statute of limitations, inventor's oath and declaration, third party
submission of prior art in a patent application, citation of prior art in a patent file,
supplemental examination, post-grant review, inter partes review, the transitional
program for covered business methods, and derivation." For more information,
check the
USPTO's Leahy-Smith America Invents Act Implementation website.
