The Dallas Genealogical Society was founded to create, foster, and maintain interest in genealogy and to assist and support the Genealogy Section of the Dallas Public Library. DGS collects, preserves, copies, and indexes information relating to Dallas County and its history and provides material and financial support to the Genealogy Section. The organization also presents workshops and other programs that offer on-going educational opportunities for the genealogical community.
DGS also maintains a volunteer desk at the front of the Genealogy Section where visitors are greeted and asked to sign in. These valuable members of our genealogy community assist the staff by keeping a record of our visitors, noting their places of origin, and may share their genealogical expertise when business gets brisk. In addition to assisting visitors with general information, the volunteers sell genealogy forms i.e. census, pedigree charts, family group sheets, etc. and DGS publications.
