Dallas at Mid-Century: A Unique Perspective.

Marion Butts documented the African-American Community in Dallas from the early 1940s to the late 1990s. This exhibition is taken from the 58,000 negatives of Butts in the Texas/Dallas History Division of the Dallas Public Library.


Free GED Tutoring

When: Saturday, February 04, 2012, at 10:00 AM
Where: North Oak Cliff Branch Library (in the Conference Room)

Students receive free one-on-one and small group GED tutoring for 11 weeks. Tutoring focuses on reading, writing and math. Volunteer instructors provide free online GED preparation for extra practice, tips and tricks to pass the G.E.D., and information on the location of the closest G.E.D. testing center. Only ten students per class. Registration by January 31, 2012 is required.

Comerica Bank Black History Celebration

To celebrate Black History Month, Comerica Bank is donating a new African American Literature Collection for the Dallas Public Library system, as well as e-readers for two Southern Dallas library branches.

The collection features close to 900 e-books by or about African-Americans and increases the System's e-book collection by more than 6 percent.

As part of its donation to the Friends of the Dallas Public Library, Comerica has also purchased 30 e-readers for use by patrons of the North Oak Cliff and Polk Wisdom library branches.
