Cherchez la Femme (Famous Detective Stories)

When: Thursday, January 26, 2017 - 1:30 PM
Where: Fretz Park Branch Library (in the Auditorium)

One Thirty Productions and the Dallas Public Library invite you to spend an afternoon with some of your favorite writers of classic detective stories, beginning with Edgar Allan Poe's "Murders in the Rue Morgue." Along the way to 21st century detective writers, we will look in on Hercule Poirot, Sherlock Holmes, Philip Marlowe, Sam Spade, Mickey Spillane, Kinsey Milhone, and Dr. Kay Scarpetti. We'll also take a look at some classic film noir. Who could forget "Double Indemnity," or "The Big Sleep?"

Presented by the Bath House Cultural Center in collaboration with the Office of Cultural Affairs and the Dallas Public Library.

VITA Tax Help

Where: Fretz Park Branch Library (in the Classroom #1)

Dallas Public Library will partner with the IRS's VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program to offer free, in-person tax assistance through trained volunteers. Assistance is geared toward people with low-to-moderate income, persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. People interested in receiving assistance should bring W-2's, last year's tax return, Social Security cards for all dependents, and photo I.D. Space is limited.
